Omnisend for Shopify — Review

Affiliate disclosure: If this page includes affiliate links and you choose a qualifying plan through one, MerchantInbox may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. That does not change the price you pay, and it does not mean Omnisend is automatically the right choice for your store. No affiliate links are live on this page.

What this page helps you decide

You run a Shopify store. You are trying to decide whether Omnisend is worth adding for email — and maybe text messages — or whether Shopify’s built-in email tools are enough for now.

This page is written for that choice. It stays practical and calm. It is not a technical manual, and it does not crown Omnisend, or any other tool, as the right answer for every store.

We have not used Omnisend ourselves for this review. The details below come from Omnisend’s public pages and the Shopify App Store. Prices and plan rules change, so check Omnisend again before you pay for anything.

Short answer

Omnisend may be worth a look if you sell on Shopify, you want welcome emails and abandoned-cart follow-ups ready to use, and you prefer one place for email plus signup forms. Text messages can come later if your plan allows them.

You can probably wait if you only send occasional campaigns, your list is still small, and Shopify’s own marketing email already covers what you need.

Read the plan details carefully if text messaging is something you need soon. On many newer paid accounts, Omnisend’s public help docs say text messaging sits on the higher Pro plan, not on Free or Standard. Confirm the current rule for your account before you count on SMS.

What Omnisend is, in store-owner terms

Omnisend is a marketing tool made for online stores. On Shopify, people mainly use it to:

  • send email campaigns and newsletters;
  • send automatic messages when someone joins the list, leaves a cart, or places an order;
  • collect emails with popups and signup forms;
  • add text messages and browser notifications on plans that include those channels.

For many small stores, the appeal is simple. Common store messages are already designed for you, so you are not starting every sequence from a blank page.

When Omnisend may fit your store

Omnisend is more likely to fit if most of these sound like you:

  • You sell on Shopify, and you or a very small team handle marketing yourselves.
  • You want automatic emails for welcome, abandoned cart, and after purchase, not only one-off campaigns.
  • You want signup forms and popups in the same place as your email tool.
  • You are willing to start on a free or lower paid plan and upgrade when the list grows.
  • You will take time to connect your sending domain properly, so inboxes are more likely to trust your mail. That step is normal for any email tool, not only Omnisend.

When you should wait

It is usually better to wait — or stay where you are — if most of these are true:

  • Shopify’s built-in email tools already cover the few campaigns you send, and you are not ready for a fuller email setup.
  • You need text messages soon, but you planned to stay on Free or Standard. Public Omnisend help docs say that for many people who started a paid plan on or after May 4, 2026, SMS is tied to Pro and is billed separately. Older accounts may follow different rules. Check before you buy.
  • You already use another email platform (for example Klaviyo), and moving would mean rebuilding your automations without a clear gain.
  • You already know you need deeper customer data and more complex targeting, and that is the main thing you will compare tools on.
  • You are not ready to watch how your monthly bill grows as your contact list grows.

We will not name a single “best” email app for every Shopify store.

What store owners usually like (from public pages, not our own test)

Based on Omnisend’s Shopify marketing pages and its App Store listing — not on MerchantInbox testing:

  1. Ready-made store emails. Welcome, abandoned cart, browse reminders, post-purchase, and win-back style sequences are a big part of how Omnisend presents itself.
  2. More than email in one place. Email is the core. Public pricing also talks about browser notifications. Text messages depend on which plan you are on and when you subscribed.
  3. Ways to grow the list. Popups, signup forms, and similar tools are part of the marketed package.
  4. Templates you can edit. Omnisend shows a large template library and an email builder. Some plans also advertise AI help for copy and segments. Treat those AI claims as vendor marketing until you (or we) try them hands-on.
  5. A large number of Shopify reviews. On September 24, 2026, the Shopify App Store listing showed about 4.7 stars from 3,182 reviews. That is a popularity signal, not proof the app fits your store. Re-check the live numbers before you decide.

What can surprise you

  1. Your bill can rise with more than “subscribers.” Omnisend’s public help docs say pricing is based on billable contacts. That can include people who get certain automatic messages even if they never checked a marketing box. Your cost can go up even when the number of people who “subscribed to emails” feels flat. Use Omnisend’s own contact totals and pricing calculator before you commit.
  2. Text messaging is not automatic on every plan. For many newer paid accounts after May 4, 2026, public help docs put SMS on Pro as an add-on. Public copy has cited example rates starting around $0.007 per message for some US and Canada sends. Confirm live pricing for your country and plan.
  3. Mid plans still limit how many emails you can send. On Standard, public help docs often describe monthly email limits based on how many contacts you have — for example, contacts multiplied by twelve per billing cycle. Stores that send a lot of email may need Pro.
  4. You still have to prove your sending domain. Connecting your domain so inbox providers trust your mail is normal work for every email tool. Mistakes here cause deliverability problems everywhere, not only on Omnisend. We are not diagnosing individual stores or giving legal advice.
  5. Some accounts get an extra review when they sign up. Public Shopify App Store reviews for email apps — including Omnisend — sometimes describe accounts paused or declined during onboarding checks. That pattern shows up across email providers. It is not legal advice. If your niche is unusual, ask Omnisend before you move your whole list.
  6. Automations do not run the store for you. You still choose offers, write or approve the copy, clean the list, and follow consent rules.

Omnisend, Shopify Email, or Klaviyo?

This is a stage check, not a contest with a winner.

Stay with Shopify’s own email tools when you are early, your list is small, and you mainly need basic campaigns. Shopify’s public help has described a large number of free marketing emails each month on many plans, then a per-thousand fee after that. Confirm current Shopify numbers yourself. Abandoned-checkout style messages may follow different rules than campaigns, so check Shopify’s docs if that matters to you.

Consider Omnisend when you want store-ready automatic emails and signup forms in one Shopify app, and you are ready to manage a separate email tool and its contact-based pricing.

Compare Klaviyo carefully when you already know you need deeper customer data and more complex targeting, and you are willing to invest more time — and often more money — to run that kind of system. Compare live prices and features side by side. Do not pick on brand name alone.

A fuller comparison page is planned later. Until then, pick the tool you can actually run every week.

Omnisend public starting prices as of September 24, 2026
Plan (public starting points) Starting price (USD) What the public pages say in plain terms
Free $0 You can send to a small list (public copy: up to 250 people for sending) and about 500 emails per month. You may upload more contacts than you can email on Free — you send to a smaller group until you upgrade.
Standard from about $16 / month Price rises as your contact count rises. Monthly email room is often described as roughly twelve emails per contact per billing cycle. Branding removal appears on paid plans. For many newer accounts, SMS is not on Standard.
Pro from about $59 / month Price also rises with contacts. Public pages market unlimited email (with fair-use language). Advanced reporting and personalization features are marketed here. SMS is often an add-on with per-message pricing for newer Pro accounts.

Please keep these caveats in mind:

  • Omnisend may bill you outside your normal Shopify invoice.
  • Public pages have shown a starter discount (for example about 30% off the first three months when you pay three months up front on a first paid plan). Confirm whether that promo is still live.
  • SMS rules changed around May 4, 2026 for many new paid subscribers. Older accounts may keep different rules.
  • Always run Omnisend’s calculator with your contact count before you decide.

What setup usually looks like

This is the usual path described in public docs. It is not a report of our own install.

  1. Install Omnisend from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Let it connect to your customers, products, and orders as the app requests.
  3. Connect and authenticate the domain you will send from, so inboxes are more likely to trust your mail.
  4. Turn on the two automations most stores need first: welcome and abandoned cart.
  5. Add popups or signup forms only with wording you are comfortable standing behind.
  6. In the first billing cycle, watch how many contacts Omnisend counts and how many emails you have left.

We are not giving legal advice on email or text-message consent. Follow Omnisend’s rules and the laws that apply to your store.

What public Shopify reviews often say

How we used reviews: We looked at themes that show up in public Shopify App Store reviews. This is not a scientific study, and it is not MerchantInbox giving Omnisend a star rating of our own.

People often praise ease of use, ready-made store automations, templates, how it fits Shopify, and support. Omnisend markets support even on Free; individual experiences vary.

People often complain about bills rising as contacts grow, confusion while connecting domains, account holds during signup review (also reported on other email apps), and frustration when support cannot share every detail of a compliance review.

Where this leaves you

Try Omnisend when you want store-ready email automations and list signup tools in one Shopify app, you understand how contact-based pricing works, and you will verify SMS plan rules before you rely on text messages.

Wait when Shopify’s own email is enough, when SMS plan rules block what you need next, or when another tool already matches how you work.
